The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) Basic School has organised its annual Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition to promote literacy, critical thinking and academic excellence among pupils while inspiring a lifelong love for reading and learning.
The event reaffirmed the school's commitment to nurturing confident readers, critical thinkers and future leaders through academic enrichment and literacy development.

Daniella Owusu Asare, an outstanding club member from D & D Academy, encouraged participants to embrace perseverance and teamwork in their academic journeys. Sharing her experience, she recounted joining the competition later than her peers but progressing to the semi-finals with the support of dedicated coaches and friends.
"I was lucky to have awesome coaches and friends who guided me throughout the journey. They encouraged me after my elimination and taught me that life is not only about winning but about the steps you take and the lessons you learn," she said.
She urged participants to surround themselves with positive influences, stressing that resilience and determination are essential for success.

Mrs. Monica Aba Brew-Hammond, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Publishing Studies, inspired students with her lifelong passion for reading, which she attributed to a childhood filled with books and educational experiences provided by her parents.
She highlighted the transformative role of literature in broadening perspectives and shaping character.
"Reading opens your mind and expands your knowledge. It is through reading, observing, listening and interacting with others that we develop the skills needed to communicate effectively and succeed," she said.
Mrs. Aba Brew-Hammond encouraged students to draw inspiration from their own experiences when writing stories, emphasising the importance of balancing reading, writing, observation and social interaction.
"Use your own experiences to draft stories but first acquire the knowledge and skills that will help you communicate your ideas effectively. Learn to use your time wisely and never stop learning," she advised.
During the awards presentation, outstanding participants were recognised for their exceptional performance in the Spelling Bee Competition and received prizes for their achievements.
